In level 4, students tackle the improv format that started it all- the Harold. The Harold was first developed  in the late 1960’s by the improv troupe, “The Committee” in San Francisco who were directed by Del Close, widely considered to be the “father” of improv. He later brought it to Chicago and perfected it at the improv Olympic theater.The Harold borrows devices from the legitimate theater to create an improvised piece that has the depth and complexity of a short play. Students in level 4 will leverage their scene work, character, and group mind skills to create artistically satisfying and hilarious improvised shows. Prerequisite: Level 3 at ColdTowne Conservatory

This is an 8 week class plus a showcase performance. Classes take place on Monday nights from 6-8PM 4/28-6/16. Showcase performance is 6/16 at 8PM.

CLIFTON HIGHFIELD is a current member of the Harold Team 'Candy Necklace' and has been teaching, performing, directing and producing improv comedy for the last 20 years. He taught long form improv formats and techniques to hundreds of student improvisors in Austin during a residency at The Institution Theater between 2010-2020. Performance highlights include The Out of Bounds Improv Festival, Chicago Improv Festival, New York Fringe Festival, San Francisco Improv Fest, Michigan Improv Laugh Festival, Improviganza (Hawaii), Toronto Improv Festival, and Miami Improv Festival. Clifton achieved a B. Iden Payne for ensemble work in both 'The Suitcase' (2013) and 'Sextet' (2024). Clifton originally trained at Improv Olympic (iO) in Chicago and at iO West in LA and has also studied at The Second City and taken classes at UCB in LA. Clifton is quoted in the book 'Theatrical improvisation' by Jeanne Leep, created creature voices for the feature film 'I Am Legend', and was an extra on 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia'. Locally, he has performed with improv teams at The Hideout Theater, Coldtowne Theater, Fallout Theater, ComedySportz, a handful of coffee shops, a couple closed bars, and a backyard.
